Free Trachea Closed Suction Set
With Lock/Swivel Adaptor
Product Description
Closed suction set is mainly composed of the T-adaptor, the suction catheter, and the vacuum control valve. The
device is used for adult population who needs suction therapy. This device is provided in sterile state. For the claimed
shelf life, please refer to the used-by date indicated on label.
Intended Use
Free Trachea Closed Suction Set is classified as tracheobronchial suction catheter that is intended to aspirate liquid or
semi-solid matters from a patient¡¯s upper airway
Specifications
Non-DEHP plasticized PVC, ODs from 10Fr to 18 Fr, lengths in 34 and 54cm with depth marks. Depth marks are
printed along the catheter shafts in cm. Accuracy of depth marks is ¡¾2mm.
Indications
Patients who need to maintain the patency and integrity of the airway and who need to remove accumulated
pulmonary secretions. Patients have an ineffective cough and unable to clear the secretion spontaneously. Indication is
done on an individual basis and is determined as per each clinical situation by professionals.
Contraindications
When indicated, there is no absolute contraindication to endotracheal suctioning. Care should be taken if patients have
severe bleeding disorder, bradycardia, hypoxia, or other similar complaints or concerns.
Side effects and adverse events
Side effects and adverse events in closed suction set are pain, discomfort, hypoxia, mucosal/tissue trauma and
bleeding can result from penetrating trauma, infection, vomiting, bronchoconstriction/bronchospasm, and problems
with the closed suction catheter such as blockages and leakage of tube.
Warnings and Cautions
This product is for single use.
Do not resterilize and/or reuse.
Re-use of this product will cause the risk of cross
infection and unpredictable health treat.
Do not use if there is any sign of damaged package and product malfunction.
If there is any sign of break or
crack to the package/product, do not use the product and replace it by a new one.
This device shall only be used by physicians and clinical staffs
Replace the catheter every 24 hours.
If the polyurethane sleeve appears torn or damaged, replace it immediately.
Discard the product per hospital¡¯s procedure.
Suction catheter is to be fully removed from the tracheal tube before the tracheal tube is cut to length.
Operation
Set Up Procedure
1. Ensure that the correct size of Free Trachea closed suction set is used with the patient¡¯s tracheal tube (endotracheal
or tracheostomy tube). It is recommended that the external diameter of the catheter should not occlude more than half
the internal diameter of the tracheal tube.
2. Attach the control valve to the wall suction tubing.
3. Before attaching the Free Trachea closed suction set to the patient, depress the suction control valve and set the
vacuum to the desired level.
4. Ensure the cleaning/irrigation port is closed.
5. Attach the catheter mount to the elbow if necessary.
6. Connect the other end of the elbow to the tracheal tube.
7. Connect the Y piece from the ventilator circuit to the catheter mount or the elbow.
8. Attach the correct day sticker on the suction control valve.
Suctioning Procedure
1. Hold the elbow with one hand and insert the catheter down the tracheal tube with thumb and forefinger of the
opposite hand to the desired depth.
2. 0.9% saline can be added through the irrigation port if required for patients with thick secretions.
3. Apply suction by depressing the suction control valve and slowly withdraw the catheter until the black marking is
visible at the back of the elbow.
4. To clean the catheter, dispense desired amount of 0.9% saline to the cleaning/irrigation port whilst depressing the
suction control valve.
5. Close control valve by turning the thumb piece 180 degrees to the lock position for added safety.
Clinical claim

benefit of this device is to remove the secretions.
